Hi, my name is Charlie Hayes, owner of the Factory Direct Mattress store in Norman. Reason I chose Factory Direct after working 30 some years in retail is I wanted to be my own boss. This afforded me that option, the low startup cost, and then just working with great people. So throughout the whole process, the leadership team at Factory Direct was with me every step of the way through selection and selling and training. So I couldn't be happier with that. Also the ongoing support that you get, they have searched out through manufacturers and suppliers good quality product at reasonable prices to pass on to our customers and I couldn't be happier. So look no further, choose Factory Direct, you can't go wrong, thank you.

The mission

Starting a mattress business can be hard. FDM gives independent owners a clearer path.

Choosing products, understanding margins, planning a showroom and learning how to sell sleep can stop a strong business idea before it begins. Factory Direct Mattress brings together products, manufacturing relationships, training and practical support to help qualified operators move forward.

Frequently asked questions

About the FDM mattress-store opportunity

Is Factory Direct Mattress a franchise?

No. The FDM Distributor Program is an independent mattress-store business opportunity, not a franchise. FDM distributors retain control of their locally owned businesses.

Are there franchise fees or ongoing royalties?

No. The FDM distributor model does not charge franchise fees or ongoing royalties.

Do I need previous mattress-industry experience?

No. Previous mattress experience is not required. Operational training is provided to approved distributors.

Can I add mattresses to an existing retail store?

Yes. The opportunity is available to qualified existing furniture stores, mattress retailers and other retail businesses, as well as entrepreneurs considering a new mattress showroom.

What is the first step?

Send your inquiry using the form above. Candace aims to reach out the same day and, once you connect, arranges a 15–30 minute discovery call with Mike. Submitting the form does not book an appointment.

Does submitting an inquiry guarantee acceptance or territory availability?

No. Every inquiry is reviewed, and submitting the form does not guarantee acceptance or territory availability.

Can I use a warehouse or flex space?

Yes, a warehouse or flex space used for retail can help keep costs down. FDM suggests 1,500–2,500 square feet and recommends heating and air conditioning. The program emphasizes customers trying mattresses in person; Mike discourages an online-only model because of returns and comfort exchanges.

What training and opening help are included?

FDM provides two to three days of training with a 153-page manual, online, in Kansas City or at your new location. Inside representatives help plan your floor layout and opening order. Training and ongoing mentoring are currently provided at FDM’s expense. For Kansas City training, FDM covers the hotel while you cover other travel expenses.

How does territory protection work?

New dealers are offered a protected territory agreement at no cost. Boundaries are reviewed case by case using the city, ZIP codes or county. The agreement defines the territory; an inquiry alone does not reserve it.

Do I need to hold a large inventory?

Weekly shipping is available so dealers can replenish products as they sell. FDM’s inside representatives help plan an opening order that fits your budget.
